Practised by Juan Lebrón, this simple individual drill alternates a net volley with an overhead shot from the back of the court, played along the diagonal. Very physical in nature, it allows players to generate a high training volume in a short amount of time.
Description:
The player and the coach position themselves opposite each other on the diagonal. The coach stands at the back of the court with a basket of balls, while the player starts at the net in a volley position.
From the back of the court, the coach alternates feeds: one ball for the player to play as a volley, followed by a deep lob that must be returned with an overhead shot.
The player plays aggressive volleys and powerful bandejas / víboras along the diagonal.
The tempo of the drill is set by the coach and the speed of the feeds.
The objective is to keep a high feeding rhythm to force the player to move quickly and to improve consistency despite fatigue.
The coach advises and corrects the player on technique, target areas, shot power, positioning, and other key aspects.
