This exercise aims to correct a common mistake: playing volleys while still moving, without first resetting the feet to regain balance. Volleys played this way will lack control.
When transitioning forwards, the player should pause before the volley with an adjustment jump (split step) to reset their feet and then be able to move into the incoming ball.
This exercise focuses on practising the split step during the transition towards the net before playing a controlled backhand volley.
