Before starting to play padel, it is important for players to adopt the correct racket grip as early as possible: the continental grip.
The continental grip is the most commonly used grip in padel, as it allows players to play all types of shots, on both the forehand and backhand sides, with or without spin.
Getting comfortable with this grip as early as possible will make playing easier and help players progress faster.
To find the continental grip, place the V between your thumb and index finger along the edge of the racket and slide your hand down towards the handle. Then close your hand around the grip.
See the video below for a demonstration ⬇️
You should now be holding the racket like a hammer (which is why it is also known as the hammer grip).

If the player wants a firmer hold on the racket (for complete beginners), they should hold the racket higher up the handle.
However, for greater wrist mobility, for example when generating spin, the player should move their hand lower down the handle.
You are now ready to start training in the best possible conditions.
And remember to always put the racket safety strap around your wrist before playing.
Competitive and professional players may adjust their grip during rallies depending on the shot, but the continental grip remains the fundamental grip for beginners.
